Paul Walter Hauser Joins Zach Cregger’s Resident Evil Film

According to CinemaDrame News Agency, following the success of Weapons, Zach Cregger is quickly moving forward with his next horror project. Deadline reports that Paul Walter Hauser (Naked Gun) has joined Sony Pictures’ new adaptation of Resident Evil, alongside Austin Abrams.
Cregger will direct the film, based on Capcom’s iconic video game franchise, and co-wrote the script with Shay Hatten.
No plot details have been revealed, but previous Resident Evil installments blended horror, sci-fi, and action elements, focusing on groups of survivors fighting to stay alive against zombie outbreaks.
Sony Pictures has slated Cregger’s Resident Evil for release on September 18, 2026. The studio’s earlier Resident Evil film series grossed over $1.2 billion worldwide.
Hauser is best known for the Apple TV+ crime drama miniseries Black Bird and was recently seen in Marvel’s The Fantastic Four: First Steps and Paramount’s remake of Naked Gun. His 2025 credits also include Americana, starring Sydney Sweeney.
His upcoming projects include the Bruce Springsteen biopic Deliver Me From Nowhere. Hauser recently wrapped filming Amazon MGM’s action-comedy Balls Up, directed by Peter Farrelly, as well as the thriller The Very Best People by Brian Suhr, and has also joined the cast of the Chris Farley biopic Farley.
